(no) context

drawing & writing

personal project

Exploring and observing everyday events, (no) context demonstrates the extent of people's existence in particular circumstances. Without indicating any object or environment, pure flesh ironically betrays the context that it lives well enough since human bodies are responding to it with such a delicacy. Whether we experience the events in person or not, how we memorize them is deeply rooted in the metaphysical context; how we've sensed, or what we've thought at the moment.

[L] Dreaming, pastel and graphite on paper, 11x14"

One night, my mother asked to stay with her, and we slept together in her bed. There wasn't any special bed-time talk, rather we both went to sleep right away. Somehow, we both slept very well the first time in a while.

[L] Encounterer (The Stairs), pastel and graphite on paper, 11x14"

I sometimes run up the stairs home instead of taking the lift. Can't stairs be where to meet someone to greet in the morning?

[R] Anonymity, pastel and graphite on paper, 11x14"

There a notice put up on the elevator wall from the apartment maintenance. Some residents trash the cigarette butts out of the window, causing a potential fire hazard on the outdoor fans of lower units. Hmm, who that'd be?

[L] The way back home, colored pencil and graphite on paper, 11x14"

After a full-day hangout, we were out of subjects to share anymore but still tempted to start another conversation.

[R] Hair Salon, colored pencil and graphite on paper, 11x14"

It is always strange to look at oneself in the mirror in the hair salon. The one helplessly sitting with all limbs covered lets a stranger cut and reshape parts of a body.

[L] Moving, colored pencil and graphite on paper, 11x14"

Mother's marriage essences got back home in almost 40 years as both grandparents passed away. They still smell like grandparents' house.

[R] ER, colored pencil and graphite on paper, 11x14"

Unless it's a fraud, there's no charge to take an ambulance in Seoul, and only a single companion can sit with the patient in the car. No one including the patient can't enter the ER though with the body temperature above 38.

[L] The Batting Cage, colored pencil and graphite on paper, 11x14"

Still, only the player is allowed to be in the cage at a time.

[R] Reunion (Memorial Park), colored pencil and graphite on paper, 11x14"

Is it just our wish that they can hear us?

[L] Underground Exit, colored pencil and graphite on paper, 11x14"

The weather forecast didn't say it'd be a shower.

[R] Baci Ball, colored pencil and graphite on paper, 11x14"

"You need to read the ground."
