By 2086, as the inevitable decline and depopulation of rural areas approach, we must now embrace population decline and proactively intervene in ‘extinction.’ We need to establish policies that go beyond maintaining the longevity of the region (well-aging) and enable it to die healthily (well-dying).
As a policy for healthy extinction, we propose the dismantling of the ‘built environment’ left behind after the population has left. By removing parts of the roof and walls, we transform the abandoned landscape into a vibrant scenery embraced by nature. We have developed new tools for demolishing houses at the DIT workshop, and using these tools, we attempted a small intervention in the natural decomposition process by demolishing an empty house in Gunsan.

Inventive hands are the foundation for creation and innovation, building and experiencing communities through designing new ideas and projects. In 2086, human actions and choices will continue to determine the direction of civilization. With inventive hands working together, we understand the value of social cooperation. Through this exploration, we demonstrate the crucial role of human collaboration in creating the communities of the future.
